The mission of MCRC is to foster economic development in greater Downtown Meadville.

Our Role

The MCRC’s role is to work collaboratively with residents, partners, and stakeholders to implement actionable development strategies for the near and long-term benefit of the entire community.
  • Implement Strategic Projects: The MCRC will collaborate with community groups to support renovation of existing structures and development of new residential and commercial spaces that contribute to our downtown.
  • Improve Public Spaces:  The MCRC will collaborate with community groups to facilitate place-based enhancements including lighting, sidewalks, greenspace, and public art that supports creative placemaking and placekeeping while resulting in a more attractive and accessible downtown.
  • Support Businesses: The MCRC will support development of a creative, vibrant downtown economy through business retention, resources, and recruitment.
  • Lead Branding and Marketing: The MCRC will promote Meadville as a destination for residents, visitors, and businesses guided by a marketing plan that highlights the unique assets and creates a cohesive identity for the area.
  • Engage the Community: The MCRC will foster connectivity across existing efforts to ensure that community voices are heard and supported through authentic partnerships.

Our Objectives for Development Strategies

  • Activation of Vacant and Underutilized Properties: The MCRC will lead efforts to revitalize vacant buildings and underutilized spaces, transforming them into valuable assets for the community. This in turn will drive community and economic growth while strengthening livability.
  • Development of Public-Private Partnerships: The MCRC will facilitate collaboration among private developers, business owners, government agencies, local residents, and nonprofits, leveraging their strengths for comprehensive redevelopment.
  • Securing Funding and Coordinating Resources: The MCRC will leverage grants, tax credits, and other financial tools that individual businesses, property owners, the RDA, and the City may need assistance securing.
  • Fostering Business Retention and Attraction: The MCRC will work to attract new businesses, and support existing businesses in the Central Business District. This in turn will drive community and economic growth while strengthening livability.

  • Cultivation of a Unified Vision and Shared Leadership: The MCRC will serve as a centralized organization to facilitate, develop, and implement a strategic community vision that is coordinated with stakeholders.
  • Supporting Development of Branding and Marketing: The MCRC will promote Meadville as a destination for residents, tourists, and businesses using a cohesive and collaborative brand that strengthens the visitor economy.
  • Involving Residents and Stakeholders: By engaging the community as a partner throughout the process, the MCRC will ensure that redevelopment efforts reflect the needs and aspirations of Meadville’s residents, businesses, property owners and community organizations.
  • Amplify Events and Activities: As a focal point of information, the MCRC will elevate awareness by promoting events and activities that are a signature of vibrant downtowns and foster a sense of community, bringing people together.
